What to understand before you start

It replaces three paper forms
The immigration, customs and health declarations used to be separate slips, usually handed out mid-flight. The e-Ticket folds all three into one electronic submission.
It covers arrival and departure
Dealing with the arrival is only half of it. Leaving the country needs its own part, and that is the step travellers most often overlook when planning the trip home.
A family can travel on one submission
You can add the people travelling with you to the same form, which saves time for families with children — though there are cases where filing separately is the better call.
It is not a visa
The form records information. Entry is still granted by the immigration officer, with your passport and onward ticket in front of them.

The Dominican Republic e-Ticket, explained

The e-Ticket is the Dominican Republic's electronic entry and exit ticket, run by the Dirección General de Migración. It gathers into one digital record the declarations that used to be completed by hand at the border, and returns a QR code to present at the control desk.

Who has to complete it

Every traveller, of any nationality, arriving in or departing from the country. It makes no distinction between tourists, residents and Dominicans returning home, and it applies to cruise arrivals as well.

When to do it

The guidance is to complete it before you get to the airport, within the 72 hours before travel. Filing much earlier carries a practical risk: if your flight is changed, the details you declared no longer match your boarding pass.

What it asks for

  • Personal details and passport number, exactly as printed.
  • Country of residence and permanent address.
  • Means of transport, with the airline and flight number of the leg entering the country.
  • The exact address where you will be staying in the Dominican Republic.
  • The customs and public health answers.
  • An email address you can reach while travelling — that is where the QR code goes.

At the airport

The QR code is shown at immigration control, and it is worth having it ready at the airline desk too. Most arrivals land at Punta Cana or Las Américas in Santo Domingo, followed by Santiago, Puerto Plata, La Romana and Samaná.
